This is a tutorial, assuming basic knowledge of Photoshop - showing a quick way of shading and lighting.

This is pretty obvious stuff, but a couple of people have asked me about shade, so I thought I'd do this, plus it was fun :D

Full view.

So helpful. Thanks for posting this. I'm in the process of using it for something on another site and will link back to here in my credits when I finish it.

What if you colored it on a different medium, and want to shade it using photoshop?
I used an app called ArtRage.

(I literally know nothing about digital art ^_^;)

That's no problem.
I do not know that app but, in theory it should work no prob.
It would obviously work best if you had seperate layers, but you can just go straight on top in PS :)

Thank you, this was a big help. Vectors happen to be... bland... without shading.

I am creating a poster for a stageplay I am doing, and I needed to shade my whale. This was superb! For me, I needed to add one step: Edit > Fade Fill, (and then I could choose opacity) and this allowed more definition of my whale to show through. Thanks much!
